Murder investigation launched after man discovered dying on road

A MURDER INVESTIGATION has been launched after a man was found lying dying on a road in Co Down.

The PSNI said the man, 24-year-old Richard Miskelly, was found on Bangor Road in Newtownards early this morning.

The officer leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Justyn Galloway from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch said:

Shortly after 5.30am police responded to a report that a man had been assaulted outside a house in the area. A man, aged in his 20s, was discovered lying on the road. He was treated by ambulance staff but died at the scene a short time later. A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to help determine the cause of death.

Two males, both aged 19, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody at this time.

“This incident has resulted in the tragic death of a young man and I would ask anyone in the community who knows anything about the circumstances leading up to this incident, or saw or heard an altercation in the area of Bangor Road in Newtownards, to contact police and give us this information,” said Galloway.
