Spanish fishing vessel detained by Naval Service off Cork coast

The detention was in relation to an alleged breach of fishing regulations.

THE NAVAL SERVICE has detained a Spanish registered fishing vessel approximately 80 nautical miles south of Baltimore Bay in Cork earlier this afternoon.

The detention, by the LÉ ASHLING vessel, was in relation to an alleged technical breach of fishing regulations.

The detained vessel is being escorted to Castletownbere, it is expected to arrive alongside tonight, where it will be handed over to gardaí.

This brings to 840 total vessels boarded by the Naval Service in 2013, this is the 9th vessel detained by the Naval Service so far this year.
