SOREN KAM, A convicted war criminal and former Nazi SS officer, died in Germany earlier this week.

His death at age 93 was reported by German media.

Reuters reports that Kam had previously been convicted by a Danish court for the 1943 murder of an anti-Nazi newspaper editor.

However, he was later granted German citizenship, and could not be extradited back to Denmark due to differences in the classification of the crime.

The Simon Wiesenthal Centre has described this as a “terrible failure of the Bavarian judicial authorities”.

Dr. Efraim Zuroff, the centre’s chief Nazi hunter, said:

“Kam should have finished his miserable life in jail, whether in Denmark or Germany.

The failure to hold him accountable will only inspire the contemporary heirs of the Nazis to consider following in his footsteps.

“Our thoughts today are with the families of Kam’s victims and we share their pain and frustration.”
