Here are the places where you're most likely to pass your NCT

Kilkenny had the highest pass rate in the country last year, while Clifden had the lowest.

THE ROAD SAFETY Authority has released a breakdown of the pass and fail rates at all of the national car test centres in the country last year.

Drivers in Kilkenny are the most likely to pass their NCT test, with 55% of vehicles passing in this centre in 2016.

The next highest pass rate was found in Killarney, with 54.1%, and Portlaoise, with 53,9%.

The place where the highest proportion of cars failed the test was in Clifden, Co Galway, where only 37.8% of cars passed the NCT.

Other low pass rates were found in Monaghan (38%) and Longford (41.4%).

For the whole country, an average of 47% of cars passed the NCT. In all, there were 1,465,702 cars tested with 692,107 given a pass score.

A very small amount, 5789 (0.4%), were found to be so dangerous to be on the road that they were failed and towed away.

The centres with the highest volume of tests were all in Dublin with Deansgrange handling 99,145, Northpoint 2 doing 98,051 and Fonthill performing 97,972.

Here’s a list of the top 10 in terms of highest pass rates:

  1. Kilkenny – 55%
  2. Killarney – 54.1%
  3. Portlaoise – 53.9%
  4. Deansgrange – 53.7%
  5. Abbeyfeale – 53.4%
  6. Ballinasloe – 52.8
  7. Tralee – 52.2%
  8. Tullamore – 51.9%
  9. Carndonagh – 51.6%
  10. Macroom – 51.2%

And here’s the top 10 lowest pass rates at NCT centres across the country:

  1. Clifden – 37.8%
  2. Monaghan – 38%
  3. Longford – 41.4%
  4. Derrybeg – 42.1%
  5. Cavan – 42.6%
  6. Carlow – 43%
  7. Fonthill – 43.2%
  8. Carrick-on-Shannon – 44.4%
  9. Castlerea – 44.2%
  10. Naas – 44.3%

According to the NCT website, a test can be booked in any centre in the country.
