AS NELSON MANDELA lies in his hospital bed, fighting a recurring lung infection, the world is remembering everything the 94-year-old has achieved throughout his life.

The Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory has just released an animated series of videos that look at the life and times of Mandela, from his birth to his work in fighting the apartheid in South Africa.

Here’s part one:

The films take in his childhood, career as a lawyer, and time spent in prison.

The anti-apartheid legend was visited by the current President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, in the Mediclinic Heart Hospital today. Zuma said that Mandela’s medical team told him he remains critical “but is now stable”.

Mandela has been in hospital since 8 June when he was admitted over a recurring lung infection. Crowds have been gathering outside the hospital where he is being treated, singing and celebrating the life of the man they affectionately call ‘Madiba’.
