DUBLIN’S NEW YEAR’S Festival (NYF) has been named in the top winter trips for 2015/16 by National Geographic.

The magazine’s website says that the city’s festival, which runs from 30 December to 1 January, “promises to be even bigger and better” than last year’s.

They recommend visitors walk around the city, stay at the Dean Hotel and drink in Lillie’s Bordello.

They also suggest shopping in Nassau Street’s Kilkenny Shop, reading Ulysses before you go and tips potential visitors off about using Hailo.

Dublin is joined on the list of best winter trips by:

  • San Juan, Puerto Rico
  • New Taipei City, Taiwan
  • Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park, South Africa
  • Vilnius, Lithuania
  • Al Ain, Abu Dhabi
  • Santa Barbara, California
  • Mérida, Mexico
  • Chiloé Island, Chile
  • Rarotonga, Cook Islands

Noel John McLoughlin of Fáilte Ireland says a place on the list is boon to the NYF festival.

“This accolade is proof that Dublin is competing with other cities when it comes to celebrations and we look forward to welcoming international visitors to Dublin once again this year.”

The programme for NYF will see theatre, music, comedy and art take over the city, with The Coronas headlining 3Arena among other events.
