PARTING SHOT

ATHLONE’S NEWEST BRIDGE has officially had its name agreed on by councillors: it is to be named in honour of the late Mary O’Rourke, the area’s most prolific politician.

There were sixteen submissions, and O’Rourke’s son Councillor Aengus O’Rourke, who sits on Westmeath County Council, absented himself from the chamber as the proposal was discussed.
