WE VISITED A nursing home in Rathcoole in west Co Dublin this week to drop in on a screening of some gems from the Irish Film Institute’s archive.

Nursing Homes Ireland has teamed up with the IFI for the Reel Memories Initiative to bring the screenings of Irish ads, documentaries and commercials from as far back as the 1930s to residents all across the country.

Resident Antoinette Flynn said it was “lovely” seeing older footage of buildings like the College of Surgeons in Dublin where she was a student.

“It brings back all sorts of memories,” Antoinette said emotionally. “And I’m crying now, but I’m crying from happiness, because I was so happy there.”

The films can be viewed on the IFI player app or by visiting their website.
