First female president of Ógra Fianna Fáil elected

Sligo accountant Kate Feeney promised to strengthen the voice of the younger party leaders.

ÓGRA FIANNA FÁIL has elected its first ever female president, 27 year old Sligo accountant Kate Feeney.

Feeney was elected by her peers to lead Fianna Fáil’s youth wing at the party’s National Youth Conference in Sligo this weekend, which was attended by more than 500 young people.

Feeney joined Ógra Fianna Fáil as a first year student in NUI Galway nearly 10 years ago and pledged following her election to mobilise members and increase the activity of Ógra Fianna Fáil at a local and national level.

Ógra Fianna Fáil must take charge of its title as the largest youth political organisation in the country. This is a pivotal time in our party’s history and our input as younger members has never been so important. My goal is to ensure that we are a positive and active organisation representing young people from all walks of life. Every single member of Ógra has a part to play in this, and I will make sure that their voices were heard.”

Delegates at the conference also elected a new Central Officer Board, which will be represented on the Fianna Fáil Ard Comhairle.

Business student Mark Stokes (22) from Stepaside in Dublin was elected national policy and campaigns director; DCU law and economics student Fintan Phelan from Carlow town was elected third level organiser; 25 year old David Ryan from Portlaoise was elected national events director; and Enda Costello from Mayo is the new national membership officer.

Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin said he had been hugely impressed by the passion and commitment of the candidates at this year’s National Youth Conference.
