Poll: Should organ donation be opt-out?

Or should people still have to explicitly say they are willing to donate their organs?
Mar 23rd 2015, 9:08 AM 17,725 99

THE NUMBER OF heart transplants performed last year dipped below the number carried out in 1990, the Irish Independent reports.

This is being put down to low donation rates.

The report comes as the Minister for Health launches Organ Donation Awareness Week.

One key element for organ donation campaigners is the introduction of an opt-out system for donation, rather than Ireland’s current opt-in. Organs are only used for donation if permission is given.

We want to know what you think: Should Ireland have an ‘opt-out’ system of organ donation?

Poll Results:

Yes (7408)
No (1555)
I don't know (389)
