A THIEF WHO stole a painting from an art gallery in Dublin yesterday made his getaway on a bicycle.

The painting Leeson Street by Irish artist Jovy Hickey is priced at €1,150.

At around 3pm on Tuesday a man circled around Duke Street Gallery before stealing the painting while pretending to be parking his bicycle.

Gallery manager Clare Shanahan told TheJournal.ie that the painting was on display outside the gallery when it was taken.

The man was pretending to lock his bike when he climbed behind the railing and cut the painting from the easel.

“He cycled off at top speed. We tried to chase him but couldn’t.”

Shananhan added that the gallery had been in touch with the painter and that Hickey is shocked. “It was one of his favourite pieces.”
