GARDAÍ ARE LOOKING for witnesses to an incident in Kilbarrack where an elderly pedestrian was knocked down on Monday.

A 75-year-old local man was struck by a car at about 7pm on 22 December on the Greendale Road in Dublin 5. He was taken to hospital where he died the next day.

The scene of the collision was examined and the driver of the vehicle interviewed. However, investigators now want to talk to anyone who was in the area and have urged potential witnesses to call them at the local station on 01 666 4300.

The victim has been named as Anthony Burke of Briarfield Grove. He is the 194th person to die on Irish roads this year. He is also the 41st pedestrian to be killed.
