Photos: Thar she blows - Russian volcano erupts for first time in 36 years

This is only the tenth time the volcano has erupted since records began in 1740.

THE PLOSKY TOLBACHIK volcano in the far east of Russia has erupted for the first time in 36 years.

The 3,085-metre high volcano began erupting late last week for only the tenth time since records began in 1740. Pravda reports that volcanologists fear the giant volcano could cause problems for flights in the region, similar to those created when the Eyjafjallajökull volcano erupted in Iceland in 2010.
