A POLICE OFFICER in the United States has been shot dead on her first shift.

This happened yesterday after Officer Ashley Guindon was called to a domestic incident in Woodbridge, Virginia.

Two of her other colleagues were also injured in the shooting. The extent of their injuries is unclear at this point.

Guindon was only sworn into her new position on Friday.

Associated Press reported that she had previously worked as a county police officer, but that Saturday was her first day in her new role.

Prince William County Police Department confirmed on social media yesterday evening that she had died as a result of her injuries and asked for the “thoughts and prayers” of the public.

It is understood that the suspect, a military serviceman, was unharmed and is now in police custody.

Earlier today her police department tweeted a picture of a police car adjourned with a black cloth and accompanied by the caption: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
