Poll: Is the banking inquiry now irreparably damaged?

A tough week for the inquiry has been made tougher after Stephen Donnelly decided to quit. Is it game over?

THE TERMS OF reference for the banking inquiry are yet to be discussed but already the inquiry is mired in controversy.

Today, Independent TD Stephen Donnelly announced that he will be stepping down from the banking inquiry,  saying that it is clear that it will not be ‘free of Cabinet control’.

His announcement comes after a week in which the Government lost its majority majority on the inquiry and then, after failing to remove a Fianna Fáil Senator, added two Government Senators to ensure a majority.

It led to Taoiseach Enda Kenny being compared to Hitler in the Seanad chamber.

Today’s question: Is the banking inquiry now irreparably damaged?

Poll Results:

Yes, its findings will be compromised (3571)
No, a rough start but that was to be expected (399)
Too early to tell (360)
Don't know (119)
