Poll: Should we scrap putting the clocks back and forward every year?

We’ve been putting the clocks forward in Spring, and back in Autumn, for over 100 years now.

THE FAMED GRAND stretch in the evenings will come back again from tonight, as daylight savings came into effect last night.

The clocks may have gone forward but Fine Gael MEP Deirdre Clune thinks the bi-annual practice of changing the time is a “backwards step”.

Having petitioned the EU on the matter, the European Commission has told Clune that it is currently investigating if it should be scrapped.

The MEP argued having brighter evenings in winter would lead to better outcomes for road safety, reduce energy consumption by having the lights on less and even encourage children to get out and exercise more.

“The very least we should do is have an informed debate on whether it is a good idea,” she said.

So, what do you think? Should we scrap putting the clocks back and forward every year?
