Poll: Should we scrap daylight saving time?

The Dáil will today debate whether to stop moving clocks forward and back twice a year. What do you think? Good idea? Bad idea?

THE DÁIL WIL spend up to three hours today debating a proposal to get rid of daylight saving time.

Tommy Broughan TD will put forward his Brighter Evenings Bill which asks Justice Minister Alan Shatter to analyse whether Ireland should stop moving clocks forward and back twice a year and instead stay on Central European Time all year round.

Proponents argue that it would mean more daylight when most people are awake, brighter evenings, and could help promote healthier lifestyles. Opponents say that Ireland should stay in the same time zone as the UK and that changing the clocks helps farmers to make the most of daylight hours for harvesting.

So what do you think: Should we scrap daylight saving time?

Poll Results:

No (3975)
Yes (2800)
