ADDRESSING THE IRISH PEOPLE during his state visit yesterday, US President Barack Obama said that Ireland’s “best days are still ahead”, and advised the crowds to pay no attention to those insisting the country cannot succeed.
As well as encouraging optimism for the future, Obama also paid tribute to Ireland’s past – underlining the nation’s influence on the United States: “Never has a nation so small inspired so much in another”, he announced.
But while the image of the most powerful man in the world downing a pint of the black stuff – or exclaiming “Is féidir linn” – would stir national pride in the heart of the most apathetic citizen, do you feel any more optimistic about Ireland’s future following Obama’s visit?
