BARACK OBAMA LAST night became the first US president to openly declare his support for same-sex marriage.
Speaking in an interview, the US president said that he had previously believed that civil unions were ‘sufficient’ but now believed that same-sex couples should have full marriage rights.
Ireland currently has civil partnerships for same-sex couples which was introduced in April 2011. A number of groups including GLEN and Marriage Equality have called for Ireland to move to introduce civil marriage for gay and lesbian couples who wish to marry. Opponents say that marriage should only be open to heterosexual couples.
So what do you think: should Ireland introduce same-sex marriage?
