Poll: Should the HSE fund charities offering sex advice to teens?

A Fine Gael TD has raised opposition to HSE funding for SpunOut, a youth information charity which offers advice on threesomes.

Updated, 10:52

A FINE GAEL TD has raised objections to HSE funding for a youth information charity which offers advice to young people on sexual behaviour including threesomes.

Michelle Mulherin told the Sunday Independent she would be raising the funding for SpunOut – which is 20 per cent funded by the HSE – with James Reilly, after learning that its website offers advice on young people that threesomes can be “really exciting and fun, but like all things in life, they have their downsides too”.

Mulherin said the advice was “incredible regressive” and promoted the idea that people could be objectified for sexual gratification – prompting the charity to respond by saying young people would have sex anyway, and it was better for them to be educated about it.

The complaint raises the issue of whether state funding should be used to promote activities that some within society find immoral or objectionable – while others simultaneously argue that young people should be given upfront information about practices that exist in modern society.

So, today our question is simple: Should the HSE fund charities offering sex advice to teens?
