Poll: Which of the four nominated presidential candidates would you vote for?

Have your say in today’s poll on the candidates who have secured an election nomination.

FOLLOWING THE weekend’s controversy over a letter written by Senator David Norris in 1997 on behalf of a friend convicted by an Israeli court of the statutory rape of a teenager, Norris resigned from the election race yesterday afternoon.

Before the suspension of his campaign yesterday, David Norris had topped the poll of five potential election candidates vying to become the next President of Ireland.

His withdrawal leaves four main contenders in the running: Independent candidates Seán Gallagher and Mary Davis have each secured enough support from local authorities to appear on the ballot, while Michael D Higgins and Gay Mitchell have been backed by the Labour and Fine Gael parties respectively.

If you could cast your vote today, which of the four candidates who have secured a nomination for the 27 October election would you choose?

Poll Results:

None of the above (2725)
Michael D Higgins (1055)
Mary Davis (447)
Seán Gallagher (432)
Gay Mitchell (283)
