HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE from all over the world have written letters to a past version of themselves as part of an Irish mental health initiative.

‘Love, from future you’ asked people to remember a time in their life when they needed help and then write a letter offering advice and hope.

The above video tells some of their stories. The project is the brainchild of mental health campaigner Aoife Price and journalist Cassie Delaney.

They received over 450 letters before compiling one collaborative piece.

Delaney said that the pair were inspired to create the project following an incident in July in which a man spent over four hours on top of a six-storey building on Dame Street in Dublin city centre.

We realised then that the way people spoke about mental health on social media was inaccurate and isolating. We wanted to create something that demonstrated the fact that everyone has mental health.

“Each word, sentence, phrase or sentiment in the letter is part of another story. There are hundreds of lives contained in this piece.

Price said that the aim of the video is to “emphasise to people that what they’re experiencing is treatable, manageable and that ultimately they have a future and anything is possible”.

The duo will be speaking about the project at the upcoming One Young World Summit for youth leaders in Dublin.
