The calibre of hitmen we have in this country is shocking, you’d think the government would step in and give them some much needed training.

Everyone has a mother, brother, father, family member, daughter or son. Although this man was grotesque and he destroyed many lives – someone is in great distress right now.. Some of the comments here are lacking in all – well i’d say Christianity but then people would make comments about men in funny hats so i’ll say lacking in basic humanity… Gilligan lived by the sword and his demise will be the same way – but jumping up and down and the grave (perhaps) is unsightly – perhaps people should not bring themselves down to the level of a thug and criminal by gloating at another human beings demise.

Gardai do not provide protection for criminals, their only obligation is to inform him that there is a credible threat to his life. I’m sure he knows that himself….give the dirtbag some credit!

@Hound: the child being christened yesterday will be on the streets with a gun and a gang him/herself in 20 years time. In the face of that how can someone be sympathetic ? I hope you or I will never have the misfortune to cross paths with a Gilligan or have one of them move in next door to one of us in out lifetimes.

This “man” played a part in the murder of innocent people. He was given a 28yr sentence and was out in 17. A slap in the face to his victims families. Sure his family are suffering now but they had their chance to rectify his ways, he made his choice, his family made theirs. I hope he survives and lives the rest of his days in fear and suffering because thats not how he lived in jail, he still had that control over people. I guess the only “christian” thing we can agree on is there will be a special place reserved for our friend in hell.

Yes I do! The time a “gunman” walked into the Halfway House calling his name and asking the barmen if they knew where he was because he was there to shoot him? Come on now! That was so beyond ridiculous, nobody took that “assassination attempt” seriously. But if you can’t see the difference between THAT and this actual attempt then there’s nothing I can do to change your mind.

I actually thought you were being ironic the last time you posted to but its tragic you believed your own rambling. Perhaps you need to address your (your as in your possession as opposed to you’re = you are btw) own issues… especially considering the psychology behind the paranoid handle.

@Ann perhaps you should read the whole comment… as for your quip about the family – you think it ok that a man gets shot at a christening – in your estimation is the baby to blame too if Gilligan has paid for the after dinner drinks? If your cousin is convicted (God forbid) of a drug trafficking offence are we to assume that you also engage in drug trafficking or condone it because he calls for Xmas?

@ Hound of Cooley. I shall make this very simple for you. I love my family dearly but if one of them did half of what Gilligan did I would happily disown them and they would certainly not be attending any family occasions in my house. The fact that he was at a family gathering suggests to me that they care not what he has done and so do not deserve the sympathy of decent humans.

Secondly you talk of bringing oneself down to a certain level and yet describe people who do not believe in Christianity as making ” comments about men in funny hats” have you not heard a better argument against this religion?

Thirdly if the Gardaí are trying to eliminate everyone with a grudge against Gilligan from their inquiries; I was at home at 7 last night where were the rest of ye?

Firstly and unfortunately I read your full comment and secondly if the parents of the child who was being christened had an iota of concern for the safety of their new baby, they wouldn’t have invited Gilligan to the occasion. They are aware that there is a viable threat against him, (as widely reported in EVERY Irish news source) but yet these poor innocence thought it was okay to put their family at risk. They knew the threat, they chose to ignore it and now they too can down in gangland history as owning the house that Gilligan got shot in. So don’t be giving my any crap about hard done by loved ones, if he was my father or brother I would probably change my name to un-associate myself with him. Everyone that associates with that man does so for personal gain, whether its just for the kudos, a new role in his gang or a big fat envelope as a present for whoevers party he’s at. Cop yourself on ye big eejit ye.
