Tonight really puts to bed the over exposure of the Irish rugby team by the media and their ‘no one gives a sh*t if they beat a poor South Africa team in a friendly game’ buzz. Rugby in Leinster runs the length of the private school Stillorgan dual-carriageway,Munster rugby fans are the most intolerable sports fans in the country. A small minority who get disproportionate media coverage because they’re from a monied class, developers and bankers sons with friends in The Irish Times,Indo and Montrose.

Northsider Robbie Brady from Baldoyle,Dublin put the ball in the Italian net,and a nation rejoiced.

What a small minded ridiculous post. Rugby is played in every county in Ireland. The likes of Clongowes, Newbridge, Belvedere are on the Stillorgan road are they? The tens of thousands of Irish fans who filled Cardiff, Wembley and other stadia in England during the last World Cup were all private school D4 people were they? This is a great night for the Irish soccer team and you focus on rugby? You clearly have chips on both shoulders….

You did see the congratulatory tweet from that stalwart of the Leinster monied elite, Paul O ‘Connell? Why not be happy that we won tonight, may win on Sunday and in between may also win a tour series in SA? It is actually possible to enjoy a moment without feeling the need to denigrate another representative team. Comparisons between the two sports are redundant in so many ways, but one thing is for sure- if you beat a team that is on paper better than you (as both have done in the last few weeks) then you should able to accept it as a nice thing to have happened. Somehow I suspect you have a different agenda. Just for the record, Brian O’Driscoll is also from the north side of Dublin, but that doesn’t fit with the paranoid agenda you foment.

Alan B, I always thought you were a pain in the ring but you have a point lad. Now before I get crucified and red thumbed as well all of you who bought irish jerseys, went to your local to watch the match, lads who went to France, How many of you will be at your local LOI game this weekend? Lads gone to France who have never Neen to a LOI game. If we helped support and develop our own league God knows what we can do 20 years down the line. 8 of tonight’s squad came from LOI. Aside from that, great result tonight and delighted. Throughly deserved and nothing to fear against the French. We have possibly the greatest fans in the world, hopefully that doesn’t stop after the euros!

Edmund, I’m thrilled with the result!!! Don’t get me wrong for a second and I’m not trying to be controversial by any means. I really don’t think it’s politics. I just think our national league deserves a bit of support , athlone town can’t pay players and Waterford utd get 70 ppl in the gate yet THOUSANDS go to France! Get grassroots football set up correctly and the national team will see the benefit too. Anyway I’ve made my point, enjoy the celebrations!!! COYBIG

So boring. Typical anti rugby rant. Tell that to Sean O’Brien the Carlow farmer and Tadg Furlong the Wexford former GAA player! I love rugby but thoroughly enjoyed seeing Robbie hit the back of the Italy net. Let’s try to enjoy the moment as sports lovers without the trolling!

Alan, I fear you lack the realisation of the situation as in not knowing or caring about the team, therefore you have not a single drop of national pride in you, going by that statement but I could be wrong and await your reply to prove me correct or wrong lol.
