I have a basic rule. If the name doesn’t pop up on screen, I don’t answer it. If it’s important, the caller will identify themselves by leaving a message. Too many scam artists and bloody spam calls otherwise.

Same here, I’ve set up my phone to transfer private or unknown numbers straight to voicemail. They can leave a message on voicemail or text me. Saves me from unwanted sales calls.

I do get a lot of weird international numbers calling me as a consequence of my job though, is the thing, and because the work I do is time sensitive I can’t really afford to screen. So stuff like this is annoying.

I got the call on Saturday, rang back, realised it was foreign language, and hung up. Dangit.

The cold caller sales people who don’t leave a message are another pain in the ar$e.
Airtricity/Pageboy Gas boiler service – I couldn’t get my name off their cold call list after numerous requests ..until I told them I was going to complain to Comreg.
and AIB’s sales call in disguise – “just checking to see if you’re happy with our service… Me: I suppose so, why? …oh yeah, you know we do insurance now?” [I hang up]
and then there are the very very creepy and unsolicited pro-life texts that I’ve been plagued with for the last 2 months [usually at about 1am].
I’d love to get a new phone number but it’s my work phone.
