No doubt RTE will pay compensation to those offended by free speech.

    Did someone say Compo?!

I’m deeply offended by her remarks. In fact I was so offended, I leaped out of my armchair pulling my head back violently and causing severe whiplash

“No doubt RTE will pay compensation to those offended by free speech.”

It wouldn’t be the first time. Remember how the Iona “institute” and some individuals trousered the guts of a hundred grand when Panti called them homophobic (which is at least as insulting as calling the Pope a Catholic) and our national broadcaster lacked the guts to let the matter be determined in court with the fair comment defence?

How many complaints would have been made if one of the contestants had simpered something Breda O’Brienish about protecting the “unborn” —?

Probably none, because most of us just do a facepalm or laugh our arses off at such antediluvian nonsense.

That the difference between the sane and the zealots. The former have a sense of humour.

    Fintan
I personally would repeal the 8th amendment, but one aspect i can nearly say for certain is that neither side would know a sense of humour if it slapped them in the face. Both sides have a huge amount of Zealots and advocates of the extreme politically stance. The current laws are a joke, and the political campaign and vote will be among the most vicious anyone of us will see, with lies, aggression, political correctness and all the worse aspects of a campaign you can think of. There will be no humour here on any side and the country will be a horrible and divided place. I suppose it has got to this point to change a law that in practice does not work.

If someone is so insecure with their own argument that they become so offended with someone else’s point of view, I for one would like to make a complaint that I am offended by the sheer ignorance of the original complainant.
