I’ve always thought it would be a good idea that as almost all guns are illegal in ireland, there should be an attempted man slaughter charge if you are found in possession of an unlicensed fire arm. Maybe an attempted murder charge if you bring one out of your home when participating in a felony. Wielding a firearm against a garda whether fired or not should have a suggested minimum sentence of 20 years but not an automatic one as judges need flexibility for special circumstances. Such as a hostage accidentally shooting a garda when trying to take his captors weapon.
