The Rose is right. Voicing any opinion is better than not. Are they literally supposed to stand there and look pretty? They’re actual women with thoughts. Jeez.

It’s a show that celebrates women. As awkward as this may be for you, that often invariably involves listening to their opinions on their own issues.

They get asked about it by judges in the private interviews so it seems very hypocritical and inconsistent to then say they can’t talk about the same things in public.

    ‘A show that celebrates women’
    LOL!
After decades of heaping abuse and vitriol on the organisers for denigrating women suddenly overnight the Rose of Tralee has been transformed into a cutting edge feminist platform in liberals eyes.
    Seriously.
You can make this stuff up.

The organizers set the agenda in all events of this nature.
Could you imagine if there were no guidelines on politics, religion, dress code, etc etc?
It would rapidly turn into a Big Brother meets Jeremy Kyle cesspit of modern personal crusades.
The internet would explode and the good people of Kerry would be rightly pissed off.

    @ Joey

Are you saying The Rose, ISN’T about celebrating women? Well you must understand my confusion then. I would have thought that a group of women being paraded around, admired and generally being approved of on live TV would have been seen as somewhat celebratory. This, by no means makes it a feminist event.

@Sean If they are two different people, they must at least be related. The idiocy is strong in these two. There has to be a genetic link.

Which begs the more pressing question: why don’t they just talk about this over the kitchen table instead of trolling round here.

Sam expressing your opinion is not “campaigning”. It’s simply expressing your opinion. The fact that you disagree with said opinion does not make it campaigning. The fact that they asked an open question which led to this response from an intelligent woman does not make it campaigning. The fact that you did not get a chance to express an alternate viewpoint does not make it campaigning.

If we censored all opinions on our airwaves unless a “balancing” opinion could be expressed would represent the epitome of what I thought you might consider to be PC correctness. Apparently I was wrong. Thins I what happens with live shows. It’s life. Get over your outrage. Ask for an opinion don’t complain if you get one. Damn women – thinking for themselves and expressing their viewpoints!

John she was lobbying for the repeal of a constitutional amendment, that by its very nature is campaigning. As for your point about censoring opinions for balance etc, I only take issue when the broadcaster involved is taxpayer funded. If the broadcaster is a privately funded and operated company then by all means have all the one sided campaigning you please and allow the market place decide its success or failure.

Opinions on subjects don’t stop at national borders. Expressing a personal opinion is not political campaigning. It is a legitimate expression of opinion about an issue of particular relevance to fertile women.

I guess that we will see more women and men in other countries helping Irish women in their campaign to achieve bodily autonomy and superiority of rights to a foetus.

The 8th Amendment is a farcical danger based on religious dogma.

I dislike the notion of relegating pregnant women to legal parity with a foetus. I value my wife far more than any foetus.

Women first; foetus a very poor second.
