Its true. I left limerick in 2011 and the fall out since dells departure has been devastating. There wasn’t one young person in limerick who hadn’t worked there fulltime/part time or for a summer. That 1900 doesn’t include the almost 1000 jobs that serviced dell but didn’t work directly for them. The government were to slow to move on dell because the threat of them moving had been on the table since 06. No effort was made to bring multi nationals to limerick as the government were pushing the east coast so much to justify the new terminal in Dublin. I think unemployment in limerick is around 28% the last time I checked and with Shannon airport struggling it seems like the forgotten city. Sad.

” to justify the new terminal “? Who dreams up this rubbish? I’ve heard it all now.
Dell hasn’t departed Limerick you fool ,they still employ over a thousand people there, like most companies they had to off load to stay afloat, the government should of acted at the time ,instead of doing f##k all.
My final year project was about the regeneration of the disadvantaged areas within limerick. I spoke with officials and investment firms and none had major plans for the region. Obviously the economy didn’t help but the lack of motivation throughout the government to bring industry to the west is stark and undeniable.
I’m interested in a discussion not insults. I said the government did nothing and that was the major issue. I never blamed dell I just spoke about the consequences of there departure.
The people who complain about Shannon Airport and blame Dublin have no real understanding of supply and demand it would seem. It was only after the Irish government stopped that insane rule where if you fly to Dublin then you have to fly to Shannon that a number of airlines started flying to Dublin or expanding their operations. The rule applied to North America. The destinations and airline options are so limited at Dublin as it is.
Again, it’s the governments mismanagement of the region that is my issue. They had a huge influence on moving traffic away from Shannon to Dublin. That’s a fact
Fock off with your terminal east coast crap stop blaming dublin for all your woes
Nobody wanted dell to leave but dublin also lost thousands of manufacturing jobs like gateway
This culchie anti dublin crap is sickening
Imagine if America brought a rule in that all flights had to go through ohio
The obsession of Limerick with aviation surely it should concentrate on food production for example
Shannon was an artificial industry set up by politicians hat could never survive
Lets burn Dublin and kill all the dubs !!! Rrraarr up the sticks
Feels like that sometimes
Matty your so great! When I grow up I want to be you! :-)
The new jobs should go to limerick
