Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act to come into force on 1 January
THE DEPARTMENT OF Health has confirmed that the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act will come into force on 1 January.
The official commencement order and regulations for the abortion legislation were signed yesterday.
The Department said today that the HSE has been informed of the commencement date.
“The regulations – which were published in draft format during the debates in the Houses of the Oireachtas – related to the prescribed forms for the purposes of certification, notification and for applying for a review of a medical option,” the Department of Health said in a statement.
A committee had been established in September to come up with guidelines for the practical implications of the Act had returned its recommendations to the Department of Health in December after three months of consultation.
The Act was signed into law by President Michael D Higgins on 30 July this year.
