PSNI arrest three in connection with 1994 murder of Catholic workmen

The men are being questioned in relation to an investigation into murders by the UVF.

DETECTIVES FROM THE Serious Crime Branch have arrested three men as part of an investigation into the murders of two Catholic workmen in north Belfast almost 20 years ago.

One man has already been convicted of the murders, while another is awaiting trial.

Gary Convie (24) and Eamon Fox (44) were sitting in their car at a building site in North Queen Street on 17 May, 1994 when a gunman opened fire with a submachine gun.

The suspects, aged 43, 52 and 65 were arrested this morning in Templepatrick, Newtownabbey and Antrim. They have been taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Antrim police station for questioning.

The arrests are part of Operation Stafford, an investigation into a series of murders and other serious crimes by the UVF in north Belfast.
