A MAN HAS set fire to a copy of the Quran in a protest at the proposed so-called “Ground Zero Mosque” in New York. Politico’s Maggie Haberman reports that the man set fire to some pages of the Islamic holy book around the corner from the proposed development, before being led away by policemen on the scene.

THE PASTOR behind the controversial plan to burn 200 copies of the Quran today, on the ninth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, has said the plan has now been formally cancelled. CNN reports that Terry Jones said the mass burning would take place “not today, not ever”.
