A FIRE ON board a ship carrying radioactive concrete has forced it to anchor off the Scottish coast.

The Parida is reported to have been carrying concrete from a power station to Antwerp in Belgium.

The ship caught fire late last night, having been battered by high winds. There are no reported injuries and the fire has since been extinguished.

Aberdeen Coast Guard was alerted last night and evacuated the nearby Beatrice oil platform as a precaution.

The BBC quotes a Shetland Coastguard spokesperson as saying the ship is under tow.
