Up to 50mm expected in some areas as rainfall warning issued

Up to 50mm is expected to fall in mountainous areas. There’s also a warning of possible coastal flooding in the south, at high tide.

MET ÉIREANN HAS issued a rainfall warning for today for Munster, Leinster and Co Monaghan.

Between 25 to 40mm of rain is expected throughout the day in the affected regions, with up to 50mm possible in mountainous areas.

The weather service is warning this may lead to flooding in places.

Meanwhile, there’s a warning that strong onshore winds along the south coast may lead to flooding at high tide today.

It will remain very mild amidst all the rain however, with highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees.

Further heavy and possibly thundery showers are expected in southern and western counties tomorrow, but there will be good dry periods in the east and north.
