A WOMAN AND two gardaí have been taken to hospital after a dramatic daytime incident at a petrol station in Meath.

At about 11.30am today, gardaí on patrol in the Kiltale area as part of Operation Thor (tackling rural crime) spotted a target vehicle.

The silver Volkswagen Golf, occupied by four men, was seen at a forecourt of a service station.

As the gardaí drove towards the vehicle, it reversed into a civilian car, injuring a woman. Its driver then rammed the car into the garda car and fled the scene.

Two of the men in the car took off on foot and were followed by both gardaí.

One – an 18-year-old – was arrested on suspicion of burglary and is being detained at Trim garda station.

The woman injured in the car and both gardaí were taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown for treatment.

The VW Golf was found a short time later in a field about a mile from Mullagh Cross on the Summerhill to Dunboyne Road.
