'Real IRA' group threatens to kill more PSNI officers

A GROUP describing itself as the legitimate continuation of the Real Irish Republican Army has said it has threatened to continue killing members of the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

The video, released to BBC News after being read aloud at an Easter Rising commemoration in Derry today, also expresses the group’s opposition to the visit of Queen Elizabeth to Ireland next month.

Police would be targeted “regardless of their religion, cultural background or motivation,” the statement said, adding that the Queen was “not wanted on Irish soil” because she was “wanted for war crimes”.

The statement appears to be from the same grouping which claimed responsibility for the murder of police constable Ronan Kerr earlier this month, in a statement released to the Belfast Telegraph.

It remains unclear how closely affiliated the group is to the Real IRA which claimed responsibility for the murder of two PSNI officers at a barracks at Massereene in 2009, and a series of other police murders.
