DUBLIN COUNCILLOR THERESE Ridge has resigned from the Fine Gael party in the wake of disciplinary proceedings taken against her in the wake of the Mahon Tribunal report.

A Fine Gael spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that Ridge’s resignation has been accepted.

Ridge lost the party whip in May after the Fine Gael disciplinary committee considered the findings of the Mahon Tribunal report which investigated thirty Dublin councillors in relation to the rezoning of land of Quarryvale in West Dublin.

The Fine Gael disciplinary committee said it found her acceptance of a donation “injudicious and unwise” and that her relationship with Frank Dunlop severely compromised her role as a public representative.

Ridge had criticised the proceedings and said that the felt that if she appealed the committee’s findings she felt there couldn’t be a fair outcome because of the “public acceptance” of those findings.

A spokesperson for Fine Gael has said that the proceedings taken against Ridge were robust, and that she had 30 days to appeal the findings, but lodged no appeal.

Ms Ridge could not be reached for comment today.
