There's a big-screen version of chilling Irish novel inspired by crimes of Josef Fritzl

HAVE YOU READ ‘Room’, the thriller/drama novel by Irish-Canadian writer Emma Donoghue? If not, you really should.

Or you may prefer to wait for the big screen adaptation which is on the way, directed by Ireland’s own Lenny Abrahamson (of Garage and Adam and Paul fame).

Inspired by the terrible crimes of Austrian Josef Fritzl, the plot concerns a young child, Jack, who was conceived and has lived all his life in Room, a sealed and windowless cabin at the bottom of a garden.

Chilling and moving in equal measures the book, nominated for 2010’s Man Booker Prize, was something of a triumph.

Going by the trailer above, the movie looks set to do justice to a novel that was the dictionary definition of ‘page-turner’.

Starring Brie Larson and William H Macy, the film should be landing in Irish cinemas in October.  One to look out for.
