Two men arrested in connection with assault that left man still suffering injuries a month later

TWO MEN HAVE been arrested in connection with an assault that left a man injured a month later.

The incident took place at around 11pm on 30 August behind a car park on Castle Street in Roscommon. The man suffered multiple stab wounds.

He was taken by ambulance to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe where his condition was called “serious”. He remains in recovery.

Yesterday morning a man in his 40s was arrested in Ballinasloe, while a second man, also in his 40s, was arrested in Athlone. Both men are currently detained for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Roscommon Garda Station.

Investigating gardaí are continuing to appeal for information. They are particularly appealing to anyone who was in the Castle Street area between to 10.30pm and 11.30pm on the night in question to come forward.

The investigation is ongoing.
