A BRITISH TOURIST is fighting for his life after being stabbed in the head during a robbery in San Francisco.

The 44-year-old man was walking with his niece on Friday when he was set upon by a man and a woman, The Guardian reports.

While attempting to stop the man from stealing his bag, which contained his passport, credit cards and cash, he was stabbed in the head.

He was taken to a local hospital where he is believed to be in a serious condition. His niece was uninjured in the attack.

The male attacker is described as a muscular black man who was about 5’10″.

A police spokesperson said that it was unlikely that tourists were being specifically targeted, saying that these were likely crimes of opportunity.
