Saoirse Ronan reportedly set to play Linda McCartney opposite Paul Mescal in Beatles biopics

US entertainment trade publication Deadline is reporting that the Irish actress has joined the cast, though it hasn’t been officially confirmed.

LAST UPDATE | 9 Oct

SAOIRSE RONAN IS reportedly set to play Linda McCartney opposite Paul Mescal’s Paul McCartney in ‘The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event’.

Multiple sources have told US entertainment trade publication Deadline that the Irish actress has joined the cast of the upcoming biopics, though representatives for film studio Sony declined to comment.

Each of the four films will focus on a different member of The Beatles. It was previously announced that Mescal would be portraying Paul McCartney, while Barry Keoghan will star as Ringo Starr.

Joseph Quinn will portray George Harrison and Harris Dickinson will play John Lennon.

Directed by Sam Mendes, all four films will be released theatrically in April 2028.

Deadline reported that Ronan is “expected to feature prominently in the installment centered on McCartney, though it’ s unknown to what extent she might appear in the other three”.

Linda McCartney was a photographer, musician and animal rights activist. She married Paul McCartney in 1969 and worked alongside him as part of his band Wings after The Beatles broke up. She died from cancer in 1998.

Ronan and Mescal previously starred in the 2023 sci-fi psychological thriller Foe together.

Announcing the films in March, Sam Mendes called the films the “first binge-able theatrical experience” and said he’d been trying to make a story about The Beatles “for years”.

The director, whose previous works include American Beauty and Skyfall, had hoped to bring the Beatles’ stories to the big screen for years, but said he believed that “the story was too huge to fit into a single movie.”

The project marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd and The Beatles – Paul, Ringo, and the families of Lennon and Harrison – have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film.
