'The €20m figure is absolutely authoritative': Fine Gael is sticking to its guns

WITH THREE DAYS to go until voters decide the fate of the Seanad, Fine Gael is sticking to its guns on the saving that will be achieved if the upper house is abolished.

Launching a mobile ad this morning, the party’s Director of Elections Richard Bruton insisted that the €20 million figure quoted is a “absolutely authoritative”.

He was referring to the Oireachtas Commission’s view that it costs around that much through direct and indirect costs to run the Seanad but there is  much dispute about whether that amount will actually be saved.

Bruton also spoke about the Fine Gael campaign and possible turnout on Friday at a media briefing earlier:
