GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING THE disappearance of 39-year-old Barry Corcoran have begun searching an area of Bawnogue in Dublin following a number of tip-offs they received.
The father-of-one was last seen on 6 July this year on Cremona Road in Ballyfermot. He had travelled to Dublin from his home in Wicklow and made contact with a number of friends. He was due to return to Wicklow but his family and friends have not heard from him since that day.
Today gardaí at Ballyfermot launched a fresh appeal for information about the man’s disappearance, revealing they began a search yesterday of lands in the Bawnogue area. The search was prompted by a number of tip-offs they received, including an email sent to TheJournal.ie, which gave details of where the Corcoran’s body could be found.
Speaking to reporters today, Superintendent Brendan Connolly said gardaí are very concerned for the man as it is “completely out of character for Barry to go missing in this fashion”.
He said gardaí had received calls from the public and they are following up on these. As a result of a number of communications about the man’s disappearance which pointed to a certain area of Bawnogue, they also launched the search which continued today.
The area mentioned is extensive and contains a lot of undergrowth and it is expected the search may take some time.
Today gardaí provided a more detailed description of the father-of-one, in the hope that more information may be brought to them about what happened to him:
On the day he went missing, he took the 11am Bus Eireann number 133 outside Flannery’s Shop in Wicklow town to Dublin. He initially made contact with a friend of his at a gym on Fitzgibbon Street and then travelled on the Luas red line to Kylemore, arriving at about 2pm. He had arranged to meet another friend there.
Gardaí say he made some purchases at a local shop on Kylemore Road at 2.30pm and again at 6.45pm. On the evening he disappeared he was visiting friends on Cremona Road in Ballyfermot and was last seen in this area.
