A SECOND EARTHQUAKE HAS hit Wellington, New Zealand, in just three days, according to the New Zealand Herald.

The 4.7 magnitude quake struck about 10km outside Upper Hutt, some 35km north of Wellington, the country’s Earthquake Commission and GNS Science said.

A 4.5 magnitude earthquake occurred on Tuesday night about 20km north-west of Wellington city.

There was just one report of damage from today’s quake, but Christchurch residents who took refuge in Wellington say they are traumatised by today’s events.

Tremors continue to be felt in the Christchurch area of the south island, which experienced a devastating 6.3 magnitude earthquake a fortnight ago. Today authorities said they were still hoping for the miraculous discovery of survivors, but their work is now considered a recovery operation.

Over 200 people are still listed as missing, including one Irish man.
