TWO PEOPLE WERE shot dead at a French nightclub in the early hours of this morning in what police say was an attack carried out in revenge for being ejected from the club.

A man who was thrown out of the club in Lille returned at around 3am and opened fire on the premises with a Kalashnikov-style weapon, officials told AFP.

Six people were injured in the attack. Police said that a cloakroom attendant and a club patron were the two killed.

The gunmen fled the scene by car and police say they believe he acted alone, however he is reported to have been driven away from the scene by a second man.

Local newspaper La Voix du Nord Lille quotes Lille mayor Martine Aubry as expressing sympathy with the families of the victims and of saying he hopes everything is done to apprehend the shooter as quickly as possible.
