A SKULL DISCOVERED in the Dublin mountains is being forensically examined for clues as to its origin.

The remains, which a garda spokesperson said appear to be a human skull, were found shortly after 9pm on Tuesday, in a field in the Tallaght area.

It has now been removed from the scene for technical examination by experts. The State Pathologist’s office is involved in the investigation.

It’s not known whether foul play is suspected in the death.

The Irish Times reports that missing person records are being studied as part of the effort to identify the victim, and it’s thought the remains could be those of a man who died in recent months.
