A CORK-BASED company behind a smartphone app that helps customers recoup some of the costs of shopping is to expand with the creation of 30 new jobs.

SnapCash runs an app where users can take photographs of the receipts they are given from participating retail outlets.

The company then engages with the retailer to get a partial cash refund for the shopper, and deposits the money into a site account, from which it can be passed into bank accounts.

The company says it is the first in Ireland to pioneer the method as an alternative to loyalty cards, and aims to allow users to donate some or all of their refunds to local schools or to a charity of their choice.

The roles will be available in sales, design and administration, with recruitment and placement starting immediately.

The company, which aims to begin operations with stores in Cork next month, currently employs eight people.
