So much for the ‘first day of spring’ — it’s been snowing today (and more on the way)

Thanks a bunch, Google.

HAVE WE BEEN jinxed by Google?

This doodle by the search engine greeting users yesterday, reminding the Northern Hemisphere that is was the vernal equinox and therefore (according to one school of thought at least) the start of spring.

Admittedly, we had enjoyed a few spring-like days until yesterday — but its been all downhill since that darn doodle.

Yesterday’s festival of wind and rain was followed up today with wintry showers. Reports of sleet and snow have been coming in from opposite ends of the country, including Wexford, Sligo and Donegal.

Nothing sticking as yet though — no photos of snowmen landing in the pictures@thejournal.ie inbox. However, Jose in Donegal sent us this image of the situation in the county this afternoon.

Alright, alright — probably no danger of us losing any of citizens to an avalanche. But there’s more on the way, too…

According to Met Éireann:

Wintry showers will continue along Atlantic coasts through the night, and will spread further eastwards later and towards morning along with a freshening wind.

Some falls of sleet and snow are likely especially on hills. Lowest temperatures  of minus one to minus two degrees.

Could be worse. As Prince once said, “Sometimes it Snows in April”.

Now — at this point, by way of signing off an irreverent TheJournal.ie weather-related post, we’d normally stick in a Youtube link to the above song. Thanks to the famously litigious star, however, none were available.

This will have to do, in a pinch…
