IRELAND IS CURRENTLY one of the few EU countries with no commercial solar industry.

However, that could be soon set to change as several major developers are considering setting up solar farms here.

Ireland needs to meet EU renewable energy targets by 2020 – with the prospect of serious financial penalties slapped on us if we don’t make them.

However, many developers are saying that they would need State support to set up here proper.

Solar companies are calling for State subsidies to help them with their developments.

However, critics are saying that the industry should be able to stand by itself.

So, today we’re asking: Should Ireland subsidise solar energy companies to develop here?

Poll Results:

Yes (5101)
No (2714)
