AROUND 80 PROTESTERS have begun a protest outside Tallaght Garda Station in solidarity with those who face charges in relation to a protest in Jobstown last year.

It was reported last week that the Director of Public Prosecutions will direct that charges including false imprisonment be brought against up to 23 protesters.

Demonstrators chanted “1, 2, 3, 4, stop the banging on our door” and “5, 6, 7, 8, we have a right to demonstrate” as they marched to the Garda station.

Those involved are protesting what they say is the “political policing” relating to the protest, which saw Tánaiste Joan Burton trapped in her car for two hours.

Anti-Austerity Alliance TD Paul Murphy, who is expected to be charged with some of the offences, is at the protest.
